So I’ve had the chance to listen to a lot more country music than I ever normally would, thanks to a friend who I’ve started working on some songs for shows with. I must say, I never really cared for the genre…got to a point of tolerating it in college thanks to a roommate, but now actually find I like certain musicians a lot.

There tends to be an amount of “sincerity” in country music that I’ve come to appreciate; lyrics that really get to the point of what the writer is trying to say.

I have no intention of singing a country song…no way I could pull it off….but it’s nice to have some different style’s of music to help with inspiration behind writing tunes.

I didn’t think this day would really come. Nevermind this soon.

It was something I always talked about. One of those things that would come up in conversation or in passing where my answer would be “Yeah, someday I’ll get one, when I have a home of my own or something.”

The timing seemed to good to be true. Sitting around a poker table with friends and my soon to be Roomates come the end of June, I look over to this large vacant “mini living room” and make a passing comment: “Wow, a piano would really go great there.” To my surprise I look up to see my friend Will (who owns the place I’m moving to) reply by saying “That’d be fine with me.” After long discussions and making sure with the guys that it would “OK to have such a beast in the house”, I actually started looking around for one.

So in my second day of really looking (having visited a few piano stores the day prior), I happen to search on Craigslist and within minutes, come across an amazing piano that seemed too good to be true. The same brand on which I was taught how to play the style of music I now write, a Kawai. Not only that, but for such a great price I was certain soemthing was wrong with it.

I couldn’t have been more incorrect. I contacted the owner’s, who invited me to their home the next day to try it out. After playing it I fell in love, and then today, after playing it again after it was just tuned, I could barely sign a purchase agreement fast enough.

For those curious, it is a 1996 K.Kawai RX-2 5′10 Grand Piano.

I’ll cherish this thing for the rest of my life. For over 6 years now, I’ve relied on a digital piano. Anytime I’ve ever sat at an acoustic piano, something always felt “weird”…like I had to relearn the instrument since I was so used to plastic keys and a tiny little sustain pedal. But now, I’ll be able to experience what I’ve always wanted, an acoustic piano of my own that I can play whenever I want.

Now all I need to do is wait until the end of June when I move to my new place to have it with me!

A big thank you to my future roomates, to the owner’s who were so kind and genuinely wanted me to have it, and to my parents and brother who felt this is something I’ve deserved for a long time. I feel unbelivably lucky to be able to have such a “dream” actually come true sooner that I ever thought it would.

-Jonathan

Hello all!

Well, after about two months of being in and out of the studio, I completed my latest project, “The Water’s Edge” this past weekend.

The CD will feature 13 instrumental piano solos. One song has actually been fully orchestrated, with myself playing synthetic string parts and my good friend Allison Lacasse playing the flute.

I also have included in the CD, a cover/arrangement of the “Theme From Braveheart – A Gift of a Thistle” a song I’m sure most people would recognize.

The Myspace will have samples up in the next few days, and by the end of the month, ordering information will be posted on the site here. It will be going through the same company “Buzz” is currently being sold, so if you bought that, the process will be identical.

Overall, an amazing experience.

I want to give a quick thanks to my parents and brother for constantly telling me to do this over the years, and for my friend Elisabeth, who both inspired some of the music, did the grapchis for the entire album, and gave me that final nudge I needed to get this project going.

Thanks everyone.

Stay tuned for more.

Jon
